Appalachian Abduction Charlotte Helms is on a mission to rescue her best friend s daughter and she is happy to risk suspension and her career to find her and rescue her James Tedder is a war veteran turned small town cop who he discovers and pulls a gun on him Whilst he admires her when he is forced to be her partner trying to crack the child trafficking ring can her trust her to have his back let alone look after his heart This is a great development in the Appalachian world that this author has created where a surprising serious crime is right under their noses There was just so much drama and danger wrapped with twists and turns as a sweet love story developed around the plot of this book I really liked the way the story developed and how it progressed towards a grand finale at the end Well written and very enjoyable. This was first published on my blog Lecture toute une AventureLavender Mountains are really not a safe place to live as it seems This book take place after Appalachian Prey and we see Liland and Harlan but this book focus on another couple Lilah s brother James jimmy and Charlotte so this one can really be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.James is working under Harlan after being retired from the military but he still has some bad effect from his time in Afghanistan and he does doubt himselfwhen he discover an intruder in his father s cabin he isn t letting go until he discover the real story of Charlotte and when he does he can t leave her alone.I loved that he was loyal, he is determined but also a bit wild He does his job well but we can see that it doesn t complete him yet He is also resourceful and quite stubborn.Charlotte also is really stubbornshe has a lead to find the missing daughter of her friend and she let nothing get in her way but doing so she also renounce to help she really need When she is forced to trust Jamesshe tries not to let her past dictate her reaction but it s not easy and she sure is paranoid However, i do admire her determination. Both have been hurt and learning to work together quite a bit like them against the world help them to heal bit by bit. Now, the investigation is interesting, the action fast paced but i did prefer Appalachian prey In this book we get less info about the setting, the people but really focus on Charlotte and James past which is good but i kind of missing the rural ambiance Also Harlan was a bit strict and while that s normal with his past he should have been open minded in my opinion he did well but not fast enough and not the right way so for those who have read the other story it can be disappointing but for new reader it should be a problem at all.So all together it s a good romance suspense that works perfectly as standalone without cliffhanger Detective Charlotte Helms from the Atlanta PD is extremely dedicated to her work, so much so that it got her suspended for insubordination The case on human trafficking she had been working on for a year has become personal her best friend Tanya s daughter, Jenny, has vanished, and Charlotte fears Jenny was abducted by the traffickers, who seemed to have moved their operation to the Appalachian Mountains Charlotte is acting on her own in Lavender Mountain, and when the owner of the cabin where she was living makes an appearance, things take an interesting turn The cabin belongs to Officer James Tedder, and his well ordered world is about to be shaken.I had really loved Appalachian Prey, but this is even better, and while characters from the previous book are featured, APPALACHIAN ABDUCTION stands firmly on its own Charlotte and James are fabulous characters, and what I appreciated the most is that they are believable all the way, as people and as police officers I loved that there weren t long lasting misunderstandings, and their chemistry was palpable from the start theirs was a slow burn that was perfectly integrated to the suspense, and you feel that when it happens, that they are good for the long run Debbie Herbert has an innate sense of pacing that made this book a pleasure to read the pace is nice and steady throughout with perfectly timed explosive bursts of action The romance takes place in a realistic timeframe, and the romantic moments happen at the right place and the right time There were a few fabulous little details, such as Charlotte s first uniform and the dye job that are not crucial to the plot, although they do serve a purpose they were absolutely delightful and enhanced the story There was also a very clever plot twist that involved something that I never knew was illegal And now I must come to what really, really wowed me Debbie Herbert s writing The descriptions are vivid, the fights are very creatively crafted, the characters exceptionally well defined, the dialogues are excellent and adapted to the characters personalities, and the prose is amazingly smooth, eloquent, and wonderfully smooth Ms Herbert s writing is subtly elegant, vibrant and dynamic, and all this gorgeousness never distracts from the tightly plotted story A most excellent book I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book All thoughts and opinions are my own. The second story conceived by Debbie Herbert for her series of books taking place in northern Georgia is absolutely outstanding Danger happens in the opening scene, and the peril keeps escalating all the way through until the stunning conclusion Add in all the realistically portrayed characters, and I was hooked on every carefully invented aspect APPALACHIAN ABDUCTION really is a novel that cannot be put down once started, as there is never a spot where a development is not riveting plus noteworthy. When Charlotte Helms came to a gated community located on Blood Mountain in Georgia, she hoped to find evidence related to the disappearance of a girl Though the Atlanta undercover detective has been forbidden to work on the case, her friendship with the mother of the teenager makes the case personal, and she plans on using some of her skills to find any solid proof But when she and a local deputy sheriff named James Tedder encounter one another, he could ruin her carefully thought out scheme to safely retrieve the girl.Although the woman who had broken into the cabin belonging to James did not want to be caught, he was equally determined to track Charlotte down and get answers Upon learning about the missing girl who might possibly be a human trafficking victim, he wants to discover if someone in the area is a participant in this terrible crime As James and Charlotte are given the chance to look for any confirmation about the illegal activity, they have a very hard time keeping their feelings from becoming involved in the case and especially each other. There is so much to love about APPALACHIAN ABDUCTION, as details are precise and come across as accurate No matter where a situation occurs, I got a clear picture of the area The threats to anyone are very real, and those endangering either James or Charlotte could often be deadly I was frequently worried about what was going to happen to these two, as both were not people who backed down and always gave their all I definitely admired Charlotte and James as they tried to make sure anyone innocent was rescued, while the guilty party was brought to justice Human trafficking is one of the worst things a criminal can take part in, and I was anxious to see how all events would play out A big shocker awaits them as they seek out answers, and the author made the surprise convincing.I thought James and Charlotte are extremely likable individuals He had spent time as a soldier before coming home and taking a position with the local police department, and his time in the Middle East still affects him without warning These moments were poignantly depicted and certainly believable Charlotte has dedicated herself to helping others, and her persistence to help a teenager had me seeing her as someone who puts others before her own wishes The relationship of the couple always seems genuine, as their discussions are candid and feelings are expressed with sincerity Several characters from the prior book make appearances, and though that story does not have to be read first, it should not be missed I am so looking forward to seeing what Debbie Herbert imagines next.I voluntarily reviewed the book, and all comments are my honest opinion A fun read Spunky Charlotte, and James Tedder, who has some unresolved issues, have a good chemistry together for this story The characters build at a nice pace, and you re never asking questions of why , or who The plot is solid, yet there are some surprises that are nice The book is well written, and very visual I like visual I want to see the story play out in my mind while I read, not just read words on a page like an essay Herbert does this very well, which is why I am drawn to her stories The book was a good length, told the story perfectly, and didn t contain a lot of fluff for filling.Although this is the second book in the series, it is a stand alone It takes place in the same town, and revolves around the Tedder family I do recommend reading Appalachian Prey as well, because it was enjoyable too I do home there will be in this series housewisereview arc ramblingboho This review is of Appalachian Abduction by Debbie Herbert.Note
